First generation college student background I have to say is the one out of four of the primary backgrounds that closely fit my situation. I defiantly don’t have that much support; my parents did not go to college. I watched them go to job to job searching for what they wanted to do as well as make an income to hold down the house. We lived paycheck to paycheck. We were that low-income family on assistance that everyone shamed. I want to do something I enjoy doing. I want to have a savings for emergencies or even some vacations because we didn’t go on many of them due to low-income housing. Someone once told me, “You either follow in your parent’s footsteps or you change the road for better life and be your own person.”.
